Designer Spotlight-Prada

“It’s Prada, not Prado”…such a cute line from the movie, “Serendipity” and one I seem to always think of when I see a Prada bag.  Founded in Milan, Italy in 1913 by Mario Prada, PRADA is one of the most recognizable names in the fashion world.  Originally selling leather goods and imported English steamer trunks and handbags, Prada now continues to sell beautiful leather goods and handbags coveted by fashionistas all over the world.  It’s crazy how many women carry Prada handbags seeing how Mario Prada did not believe that women should have a role in his business.  Ironically, his only son had no interest in the company, so it was his daughter who took over the company and successfully operated it for many years, until her own daughter, Miuccia Prada, took her place.  Miuccia Prada (have you heard of Miu Miu?) and Patrizio Bertelli continue to manage the Prada empire today.
