Ugg boots or more fondly known as Uggs, are a style of sheepskin boots made of twin-faced sheepskin with fleece on the inside. Most everyone is familiar with the Ugg boots as they can be seen worn by lots around town…some love ’em, some don’t. But as stated in one of my very first posts on Wrinkled Chiffon my love affair with Uggs started off a bit rocky, but has definitely stood the test of time. Living overseas, mostly in warmer climate, I have truly missed my comfortable, soft, cozy Uggs and am so happy to FINALLY be reunited. Lately, I have been taking every opportunity to slip them on my feet!
Researching a bit about Uggs for this post, I came to find out that the origins of the Ugg boot style and the term “ugg” have been heavily disputed throughout the years, with both Australia and New Zealand staking claim to their invention. In these two countries, the actual term ugg boots, ugh boots and ug boots are used to describe ANY sheepskin boots. This has caused much dispute between some manufacturers as to whether the term “ugg” is a protected trademark or just a generic term. Especially because sheepskin boots have been being manufactured for years and years, before the term “ugg” even came into existence! There are even some reports stating that Blue Mountains Ugg Boots of New South Wales was manufacturing sheepskin boots in 1933 and named the company as such after the owner’s wife stated that the first pair of boots he made were “ugly”, ha! Then years later, sheepskin boots were seen as a staple on the beaches of Australia and New Zealand when surfers slipped them on their feet after returning from surfing competitions in the 1970s. So as the popularity of the sheepskin-type boots grew, an Australian surfer paired with a friend and registered the Ugg Australia trademark in the US. Of course, the company boomed! Now owned by the California-based Deckers Outdoor Corporation, the UGG symbol we all know and love is sold in over 140 countries worldwide! So today I’m sporting one of my favorite pieces of footwear and today’s Designer Spotlight – UGGs.

What a cute post. My relationship with uggs started off rocky as well. In the beginning I said that I would never wear them but after 2 years of seeing them around I decided to try on a pair and realized they were heaven for my feet and it was instantaneous love.
Have a happy Thanksgiving!
XO,
Zhanna
