It’s all in the soil

Kona Coffee, cultivated in the Big Island of Hawaii, is one of the most expensive coffees in the world!  They say it’s all in the soil….and if you read my last post, you may know why.  The combination of the weather and the porous, mineral-rich VOLCANIC soil is what creates such favorable coffee growing conditions.  Since my hubby loves his coffee, this was a fun stop during our trip to the Big Island.  We took a tour of Greenwell Farms and here are some of our photos…along with some fun facts.  For instance, did you know that coffee is actually a fruit?

Coffee starts out like this…growing on a tree.  It forms a flower and then a cherry.

The cherries are stripped down to a bean, removing the fruit.  Next, the beans are dried.

Lastly, the beans are roasted and coffee is created.

Ready to enjoy and of course, to buy…Yum, Yum Coffee!
