Travel-Sabah, Island of Borneo continued

Continuing Thursday’s Travel day from last week’s post, my husband and I were enjoying a lovely birthday weekend at Gayana Eco Resort in Gaya Island, off the coast of East Malaysia.  After all, since it was my husband’s birthday, I decided to splurge for the ocean view room that brings breakfast to your bungalow every morning…BY BOAT!  So fun!  Each morning we arose like little kids on Christmas to the sound of the boat’s engine pulling up to our back deck bringing us a lovely assortment of fruits and pastries from the restaurant.  What a life!

We continued the rest of our trip eating lots of great food, relaxing and even feeding some crazy big fish!  Here’s the rest of our vacation shown in pictures below.

Thankfully these aren’t baby sharks, but they look like it!

Okay, so we visited the seafood restaurant one more time before we left and instead of fresh fish from a couple nights before (that was an experience), I ordered the crab.  Boy, did they serve me a lot of it and as always, I had no trouble devouring it!

We took a boat to a neighboring resort called Bunga Raya.  It was like little hotel rooms spaced out on the hills throughout the jungle.  It reminded me of Swiss Family Robinson.

Besides being a beautiful getaway and wonderful resort, the Gayana Eco Resort has an on-site Marine Ecology Research Centre devoted to protecting marine ecology.  So before leaving, we made sure to stop by and see how Gayana is involved with saving endangered giant clams, starfish and restoring the natural coral that has been damaged on the ocean floors.

One last dip in the pool before we were back to reality.  This is my happy place!
