A couple of weekends ago, we visited the National Harbor in Washington, D.C., as posted about last week here. As stated in my post, there was a bit of a hidden agenda behind our visit…going to the Peeps store!!! For as long as I can remember, I have loved Peeps…marshmallow, sugar…what is there not to love? So when I found out there was an actual Peeps STORE, I had to check it out!
Peeps were introduced in the early 1950s and continue to be a favorite treat found in children’s Easter baskets. Originally able to be purchased only around the Easter holiday, now you can find Peeps during Halloween, Christmas and even Valentine’s Day – all in different colors, shapes and sizes…some even strawberry creme-flavored and others dipped in chocolate! Visiting the Peeps store was like stepping into a technicolor dream-world – the walls covered in picture frames filled with chick Peeps, shelves filled with Peeps stuffed animals, coffee mugs, socks, flip-flops, mouse pads and even jewelry shaped like the bunny and chick marshmallow treats! But my favorite Peeps item to purchase, was their t-shirts…one in particular with the motto painted on the front, “Inside We’re All the Same.” How cute?!
Did you know that each year an annual “Peep Off” competition is held in Maryland? On the first Saturday after Easter, people gather to see who can eat the most Peeps in 30 minutes. Currently, the record is 102!
There are even competitions for Peep art-work…one such piece sat in the store.
Yummy…PEEPS!
Mike and Ike’s, as well! How fun.
Love it, can’t wait to see what you do next! Come check out my blog, maybe we can follow each other!
