Growing up, I always loved visiting my grandparents’ house.  It was set off the street in the woods, right on a lake, across from a small airplane landing strip.  Inside, it was nice and cozy.  My grandparents had a huge wrap-around couch and a beautiful old piano.  But the thing I loved the most about my grandparents’ house was a painting that hung on the wall right above the piano.  It was a painting of two young girls, one playing a piano and the other one looking on.  My grandmother used to say that it reminded her of her two daughters, my mom and my aunt.  This made me love the painting even more.  Although it was just a thin canvas in an old frame, I just loved that painting – so much that when my grandparents passed away, I was able to take this painting and carry it to my own place and hang it in my room.  For years I moved this painting back and forth to four different apartments and even overseas, but I never really knew much about it…to be honest, it didn’t matter, I just loved it.  So you can imagine my surprise when I walked into the Musée d’Orsay in Paris and saw the SAME painting hanging on the wall of the museum!  Unbelievable!  This painting I had loved and looked at for years was a replica of a famous Renoir painting – Jeunes filles au piano or Young Girls at the Piano.
